Last Saturday (March 31, 2012), we welcomed the newest batch of INKies at the Orientation Seminar held at the UP College of Fine Arts Auditorium.
This year has been record breaking application period as 68 applicants sent over their entries. The org had a tough time deliberating on the works because the talent level was incredibly high. In the end, 30 applicants made the cut.
During the Seminar, veteran INKies and multi-awarded artists Jomike Tejido and Brian Vallesteros shared their works and the things they’ve learned in their careers. Then PBBY-Alcala Prize Winner Hubert Fucio and Honorable Mentions Domz Agsaway, Jonathan Rañola and Aldy Aguirre discussed their winning entries into the competition.
The Seminar finished off with each of the new INKies presenting their portfolios. Here’s hoping for a fruitful 2012 with the “Newkies”. :)

It was a great month for INK as our artworks were showcased in the exhibit sponsored by the Ortigas Foundation entitled “Your Heart Today, Ninoy and Cory in Art.”
We were asked to interpret various writings by Ninoy and Cory Aquino into artworks. It was a challenge and a pleasure to be part of the exhibit.
Here is a slideshow of some of the artworks featured in the exhibit.
Ang INK had a great privilege of having an illustration workshop with prominent painter and illustrator, super Inkie, Jason Moss. In the three day workshop, the group had so much fun learning, reintegrating, and collaborating on the art and business of children’s book illustration.
Please come and find out what INKies’ works have to say about the relevance of Jose Rizal today…

“The Center for Art, New Ventures & Sustainable Development (www.canvas.ph) proudly presents our third annual Looking for Juan Outdoor Banner Project.
We have again invited dozens of our country’s best artists to reflect and express their thoughts on the question of what it means to be Filipino, focusing this year on Jose Rizal. As we commemorate the 150th birthday of our National Hero, we invite you to join us - and walk, bike or drive around the magnificent tree-lined Academic Oval of the University of the People - as we contemplate and reflect on what his life, words and sacrifice mean to all of us, as Filipinos.
At the end of this public exhibition, the banners will again be recycled into tote bags that will serve as one-of-a-kind pieces of functional art which will then be sold to benefit selected charities, as well as other CANVAS efforts to promote greater awareness and appreciation for Philippine art, culture and the environment.
RELEVANT RIZAL opens at 4pm on Friday, June 3, 2011 at the Vargas Museum in UP Diliman.
For more information and to preview the artworks, please visit Looking for Juan, or email info@canvas.ph.”
